Rutgers-Camden: Admissions

Information for Transfer Students

You’ve completed your associate’s degree at a county college and you’re ready to earn your bachelor’s degree. Perhaps you’re enrolled at another college, and want to experience a world-class research university. In either case, you’re ready for the Rutgers–Camden experience. The following information will help you to transform your college experience into a highly respected Rutgers degree:

Definition of a Transfer Student

You are considered a transfer student if you are a high school graduate who will have completed at least 12 college credits since high school and before your expected date of entry into Rutgers. (This does not include current high school students who are also taking college courses.) If you seek to transfer into the Rutgers School of Business, you must have 45 college credits completed before you can enroll.  Transfer students must complete a minimum of 30 credits while at Rutgers–Camden in order to be awarded a Rutgers degree. Transfer students use the same application as all other students. About Transfer Credit

Most credit evaluations are completed after transfer students have been admitted and have confirmed their intention to enroll. In general, credit is granted for courses taken at accredited colleges and universities if they are the equivalent of courses offered by Rutgers and a grade of at least a C has been earned. Enrollment Pathway

You accept admission to Rutgers–Camden by confirming your attendance and sending in a deposit. The easiest way to accept your admission and pay the $125 nonrefundable acceptance fee is to do so online through your Rutgers status screen. You may also submit your payment along with your admissions acknowledgement form included in your packet. Once you have confirmed that you will be attending Rutgers–Camden, you must submit ALL college transcripts (and AP scores if applicable) for transfer credits. You will receive notice from the Office of the Registrar that you have been awarded credit for the courses for which official transcripts or score reports were submitted as well as the Rutgers–Camden equivalency for the course(s). This notice will be mailed to the mailing address that you have listed with the admissions office. The letter will contain instructions on next steps to take, and whether or not placement testing will be required.

Credit evaluations are typically processed for students that have been admitted to Rutgers–Camden and have confirmed their intent to enroll. There is no credit limit on the number of courses that may be transferred from an accredited four-year institution. There is a 64-credit limit for courses taken at a two-year institution, such as a community college. Only courses with a grade of C- or better will be considered for transfer.

Placement Testing

There are three placement tests offered on each test date. There is a math placement test, which is required for any transfer student who has not transferred in a college-level math course (Statistics is not considered a math course). There is an English placement test, which is required for all transfer students who have not transferred in a college-level English course (except for students who have a score of 500 or greater on the verbal/critical reading section of the SAT exam). There is also a foreign language (Spanish, French, and German) placement test which is required for Arts and Sciences students planning to continue in the language that they studied in high school. Registration and Advising

Once placement testing has been completed (if required), transfer students may then register for classes. This can take place in two different ways. There are a series of group registrations for new transfer students in which students can meet with faculty members from their proposed major to select their classes. If a new transfer student is unable to attend a group registration, he or she may sign up for an individual appointment with a dean in the appropriate Office of Academic Advising to select their classes. See the helpful links for more information on advising, degree requirements and schedules.
