Academics: Academic Integrity Policy

As of July 1, 2008, all academic units at Rutgers University are operating under a university-wide interim academic integrity policy, which places the process of dealing with allegations of academic integrity violations with individual academic units, a practice that has been in place at Rutgers-Camden for several years. All decisions, no matter what the level of the alleged violation, are made on our campus.

A notable feature of the interim policy is that faculty members may choose to investigate and sanction non-separable academic integrity violations (those that would not lead to a recommendation for suspension or expulsion, known as Level 1 and Level 2 violations in the policy), then report the sanction to the unit's Academic Integrity Facilitator (AIF). Faculty members may also refer alleged violations to the unit AIF for investigation and sanction. No matter which option is selected, the faculty member should use the Academic Integrity Violation Form to report the violation to the Dean's Office. This is particularly important in case a student has previously been found to have committed an academic integrity violation.

Please complete the Academic Integrity Violation Form no matter which option you choose. If you handle the alleged violation yourself, complete the first page and Part I, then submit the form, the letter of notification to the student, and any supporting materials to the FAS Dean's Office. If you choose to refer the alleged violation to the Dean's Office, complete the first page and Part II, then submit the form and relevant supporting materials to the FAS Dean's Office.

Below you will find links to several documents that will be helpful to you. Any questions about the policy or procedures can be directed to Nancy Rosoff, Associate Dean-FAS, who is the unit's Academic Integrity Facilitator, or to Mary Beth Daisey, Associate Chancellor for Student Affairs, who is our campus point person for academic integrity issues. In addition, please note that there is an appeal process available to students, which is administered on the campus.
